The African proverb, “It takes a village to raise a child,” speaks to the core values and mission of our company, and thus our name.

Schools are at the center of a community’s efforts to raise children. The future health of our nation as a whole, and the livability of each community are dependent on the capacity of our schools to be successful in their missions.

Regrettably taxes and tuition are barely enough to support basic academic courses. But sports, band, art, music; those programs necessary for the development for the full individual, require extra that comes in the form of fees and fundraising.

Whether elementary, high school or college; private or public, schools are constantly searching for more and for new ways of raising money to support all the programs it must maintain.

Build the Village Online offers an alternative to traditional fundraising by creating a passive stream of revenue for a school’s programs.

Build the Village Online is about raising money to raise children. It is about reducing the burden on faculty, staff, students and parents to raise money. It is about increasing the opportunity to teach and the opportunity to learn. It is about experiencing the wonder of a young person gaining awareness of who they are, and who they want to become.

Build the Village Online’s founder, Thomas Miller, has 25 years experience in private school and nonprofit administration, and fundraising. “I know of the never ending need to raise more money, and to constantly find new ways of raising it. You get tired of asking, and donors get tired of being asked”

This is true throughout the nonprofit sector but is particularly true for schools. The rate at which costs increase far exceeds the rate at which tax revenue increases, or at which tuition can be raised. The result is more extra fees and extra fundraising to pay for what was once paid for by the school.

Build the Village Online is not just another way to raise money. Our goal is for each school to develop a year-round stream of passive revenue that reduces the demand for extra fees and for fundraising programs.
